Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges to the world, forcing many to adapt to new realities. For some, it became a time of reflection, an opportunity to pursue long-held dreams. This is the story of one such father and son duo who, in the midst of uncertainty, decided to build something beautiful from scratch.

The Genesis of a Dream

Meet Dave and Michael Steinman, a father and son who have a shared love of building and creating. Their story began years prior when their family embarked on a journey to start a family business, building escape rooms. Michael and Dave were tasked with building all of the props and mechanics of each room. Putting their love for building to work, they created space ships, temples, and mansions with hidden compartments and secret rooms throughout. Crafting intricate and complex wooden objects and furniture ignited a new passion for woodworking in both Michael and Dave.

Michael had always loved woodworking but never had the chance to explore it fully. Likewise, Dave had a natural curiosity for crafting and creating things with his hands. The pandemic lockdowns created the perfect opportunity for them to dive into their shared interest. They began by constructing small projects for around the house and It wasn't long before they realized that their hobby could be something more.

Planting the Seed of a Business

The father-son duo soon found themselves spending hours in the garage, perfecting their craft. What started as simple projects soon evolved into more complex and elegant builds. As they honed their skills, they began to receive compliments and even requests from friends and neighbors for custom pieces.

This positive feedback planted the seed of an idea: why not turn their passion into a small business? With uncertainties looming about the future, they decided to take a leap of faith and start their own woodworking business.

The Birth of "Iron Roots Woodworks"

In the spring of 2020, Iron Roots Woodworks was born. Michael and Dave moved out of the garage and into a true workshop to begin crafting custom hardwood furniture and home decor. They worked tirelessly to create a brand that reflected their dedication to quality craftsmanship, customization, and a love for all things wood.

Navigating Challenges

Starting a business during a pandemic was not without its challenges. Sourcing materials became more complicated due to supply chain disruptions, and the inability to interact with customers face to face made securing customers more difficult. However it also drove those working from home to search for ways to customize their new home offices. They were soon building custom desks and workstations for many who had moved to working remotely.

Conclusion

The story of Michael and Dave and their woodworking venture, Iron Roots Woodworks, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit during challenging times. What began as a way to pass the time during a global pandemic evolved into a thriving business that brought a father and son together.
